Bamboo Sourcing

Bambu Batu is no longer a retail gift shop, and we don’t run a catalog. I know bamboo producers, personally, across every continent, and I spend my time matching the right one to the right buyer.

If you’re looking for a specific product, at a specific quality, for a specific use, that’s the conversation I want to have.

Tell me what you’re sourcing.

Why this is hard to get right

Bamboo isn’t one material. Tonkin Bamboo, Guadua poles, Asper slats, engineered panels, handcrafted goods, bamboo charcoal — these come from different regions, different producers, different crafts entirely. Most buyers don’t know that going in, so they either end up locked into whatever Chinese supply chain happened to answer their email first, or they never source bamboo at all because nobody showed them another way.

I’ve spent over twenty years in this industry, as a retailer, consultant, author, and educator, working with growers and buyers on six continents. This service is that experience, put to work for you.

Core products

  • Guadua angustifolia and Dendrocalamus asper poles and slats — Central America
  • Premium bamboo poles, including Tonkin, Dendrocalamus strictus, and others — India
  • Handcrafted bamboo furnishings and bamboo charcoal — Africa
  • Engineered bamboo panels and building materials — the Philippines

Every producer here, I’ve vetted myself, for product quality, communication, and reliability. I’m not reselling a generic directory.

Who I work with

  • Manufacturers and processors in Europe and North America who need raw bamboo material.
  • Agricultural supply companies looking to add bamboo to their line, without an existing channel.
  • Green building and construction companies who want bamboo materials without vetting suppliers from scratch.
  • Any buyer who wants someone who understands the material, because sustainability is a practice, not a plant species.

How this is different

A trading company sells you what’s already in stock. I ask what you’re actually building, then find the producer who can supply it, with the quality and communication to make the relationship hold up past the first container.

That means matching by product first, not by geography. It means direct relationships instead of a broker’s contact list. And it means a straight answer, even when the answer is that I’m not the right fit for what you need.

Get in touch

Tell me the product, the volume, and where it’s headed. I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help, and if I can, who in my network is the right match.
